Long Cold Winter

Posted on: February 23, 2008 5:54 am

Winter in Wisconsin is long, cold, and extremely depressing.  Last time I checked we had a snowfall total of 74 inches for the season. (That is barely breaking the top 15 all-time in this area.)  When it isn't snowing this year, a rarity it is usually below zero.  We have had wind chills as low as -50 below zero.  If you are from a warm area and that sounds cold trust me, it is.   When you step outside to get your mail and your beard freezes stiff, and it takes 5 minutes to get the feeling back in your extremities it is damn cold.

Myself a Pro sports fan, the winter has gotten even longer the last few years after Packers season has ended, because the Milwaukee Bucks are one of the saddest NBA franchises.  We continue to hire coaches on the cheap, we have a lame duck GM, and a owner that seems to want to try to run the team with limited basketball knowledge.   Don't  get me wrong I am glad Herb Kohl has refused up to this point to sell the team to someone else that would move the Bucks.  However he has tied Larry Harris's hands this season.  He refused to let Harris make any changes (trades) to our roster at the trading deadline.  I can somewhat understand why, Harris has made some terrible moves by signing Dan Gadzuric, Bobby Simmons, and Charlie Bell all to overpriced long term contracts.   It appears that Kohl is just going to let this season play out.  Harris will be fired immediately after the season and a new GM, and possibly head coach  will be brought in to try to make sense of this mess yet again.

Here is what I would do this off-season for the Milwaukee Bucks.  Either trade Mo Williams or Micheal Redd.  These are the 2 best scorers on the team no doubt.  However how much do they help when they combine to score 40+ pts a night and give up 50?  If these 2 continue to be in the same back court our defense has no chance.  Mo and Mike cannot stop dribble penetration and it breaks down the entire defense.   Get a pass first, defensive minded Pt guard (Andre Miller?) and whoever we keep plays the 2.  We need to do whatever we can to rid ourselves of Gadzuric and Bobby Simmons.  That would free up some $$ and would alow us to get a defensive minded small or power forward.  (Preferably someone who can rebound well)   The future of this team is Andrew Bogut and Yi Jianlian.  Yi and Charlie Villinueava along with whatever forward we acquire will split the minutes between the 3 and 4 spots.  I am not asking for miricles from this Bucks team, all I want is a winning record next season. I realize this is a young team, but a winning recordin  the East that should be good enough for a #6 seed at least.

Coundown is on until opening day.  36 days and counting.  GO BREWERS!!!
